| 英文描述 | Abdominal distension and dystocia occurred in a sheep flock in Australia over a four year period. The fetuses in affected ewes had birth weights up to 18 kg and had severe generalized edema of subcutaneous tissues, fluid accumulation in the serous cavities and edema of the placenta. Microscopically there was generalized extramedullary hematopoesis and massive edema, consistent with chronic fetal anemia. This syndrome resembles homozygous alpha-thalassemia in human infants associated with hemoglobin Bart's, but the cause is unknown. It is believed to be unlikely that an infectious or teratogenic agent was the cause, and a hereditary basis is suspected. There are rare reports of this syndrome in cattle and goats (Harper et al.). |
