| 英文描述 | Of 265 goat kids born on a farm in Fiji, at least 60 developed neurolgic disease at 1-2 months of age. Over a 24 hour period signs in affected kids progressed from ataxia to flaccid quadriplegia, followed by death, generally within 1 week. No affected kids recovered. Animals remained bright and alert, even when unable to rise, until there was secondary starvation or dehydration. There were no gross lesions at necropsy; there was widespread spinal cord neuronal degeneration and active demyelination. Despite an active search, the cause of this syndrome was not determined. A feed-based toxicity was suspected (Hartley and Clarkson). No treatment was described. |
