| 英文描述 | Due to ingestion of alkaloids in grains infected with CLAVICEPS PURPUREA. Dx by identification of organism and toxin. Signs can vary from mild to severe. Non-painful progressive gangrene seen with ergotism is usually worst in the extremities, particularly the hind limbs, tail and ears. Some authors suspect that ergotism of cattle can cause abortion in the absence of skin changes. There are reports of hyperthermia, respiratory distress and loss of production in herds of cattle in Australia being fed feed contaminated with CLAVICEPS PURPUREA, and this syndrome was produced experimentally. Treat by removal of the source of the toxin in the diet. Prognosis depends on the severity of the lesions. |
