| 英文描述 | In this rare disease of dogs, parathyroid hormone is produced in excess by a functional lesion in the parathyroid gland. Usually a disease of older dogs, but has been reported in puppies. Lesions may consist of parathyroid adenoma of active chief cells, parathyroid hyperplasia, or an aberrant parathyroid gland in the area of the thymus. Dx is by age, signs, persistent hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia (often in association with high serum alkaline phosphatase activity and isosthenuria), scintigraphy, histologic evidence of hyperplasia or adenoma, radiographic evidence of demineralization, and response to removal of parathyroids. Persistent hypercalcemia can cause nephropathy and renal failure. |
