| 英文描述 | A myopathy with onset of signs at 6 weeks-7 months of age is seen in yellow- or black-coated Laborador Retrievers of either sex. Affected animals often have a gait characterized by short steps with reluctance to hold the head up. They seem stiff, but muscle tone is not increased, joint manipulations do not seem to elicit pain, and spinal reflexes are normal. There is progressive muscle atrophy which is prominent in the proximal limb muscles. Cold weather and excitement often worsen signs; myotonic discharges are present on electomyography in some cases. Although Diazepam may improve the signs, and they stabilize as the animal ages, affected animals can remain stunted with small muscles. Inherited as an autosomal recessive and there is atrophy of type II muscle fibers, which is diagnostic. The gene for this disease is widespread in the breed. There is no treatment, and the prognosis varies with severity of signs. In some cases there was associated megaesophagus. |
