| 英文描述 | Bacterial infection of the uterus can follow manipulations during birth, abortion or fetal infection, or ascending infections. Dx by signs and culture. There is usually a marked leukocytosis and left shift. Radiography should be used to detect fetuses. Retained placenta is common in small animals, and is usually passed after partial decomposition. In some cases the owner has counted placentae and knows one or more are retained. This can be confirmed by rotating a square gauze in the uterus to draw out the placenta. If signs of systemic illness develop treatment for metritis is started. |
