| 英文描述 | This is a disease characterized by the accumulation of chylous fluid in the pleural cavity. A possible complication is the development of severe, constrictive, pleural adhesions which compromise pulmonary function. Most common causes are trauma, malignancy, idiopathic, post-surgical, with inflammatory disease, or in association with right-sided-heart failure. Has also occurred congenitally. Typically there is a delay between traumatic incident and onset of clinical signs. Dx is by thoracocentesis and analysis of fluid. Chyle is odorless, milky, and separates on standing, with a creamy top. Pleural fluid cholesterol/triglyceride ratios are lower in chylous than in nonchylous pleural effusions, and this may aid in diagnosis. There is a report of chylothorax in a calf; the calf only had signs of dyspnea and abdominal distention, and there was associated chyloperitoneum (Cruz et al.). |
