| 英文描述 | Intervertebral disc infection with osteomyelitis of adjacent vertebrae affects mainly large dogs, and lesions are most common in the mid-thoracic region. Causes include bacterial or fungal infection or foreign body. Dogs may have concurrent bacteremia and urinary tract infections that spread hematogenously. Most common bacteria are STAPHYLOCOCUS INTERMEDIUS and S. AUREUS; BRUCELLA CANIS and other organisms occasionally isolated. Dx is by radiographic evidence of bony lysis of the vertebral end plates, but radiographic abnormalities might not be seen during the first 2-4 weeks of infection. Blood, bone, and urine may culture positive. Hematology may show evidence of a chronic infection. Rare in the cat. |
