Most affected animals die within one to three days of the onset of signs. In many cases a stomach tube cannot be passed. Dx at surgery. Most cases have pre-existing esophageal disease such as megaesophagus, and there may be secondary inhalation pneumonia. Clinically resemble an esophageal foreign body. Endoscopy may be used to aid in diagnosis by allowing direct visualization of the inverted gastric mucosa in the lumen of the esophagus. |
