| 英文描述 | Tetanus is due to the neurotoxin of CLOSTRIDIUM TETANI, bacteria that grow in infected wounds. Rare in the dog and cat. Diagnosis is based on clinical signs; a history of trauma or surgery is common. There is a characteristic elevation of the ears and tail, with generalized stiffness and the so-called ' sardonic grin'. Can occur in a muscle groups near a wound, a syndrome known as localized tetanus. Esophageal hiatal hernia and megaesophagus have been reported as complications of tetanus in dogs. |
