| 英文描述 | Young animals fed diets deficient in calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D are susceptible to the development of improper enchondral ossification and bone deformation. There are also a reports of rickets in dogs and cats attributed to an inborn error in vitamin D metabolism. There may be secondary fractures of long bones, and swelling of the epiphyses. Dx by dietary history. Adult animals subjected to the same deficiencies can develop osteomalacia associated with nutritional secondary hyperparathyrodism. An inherited rickets syndrome has been reproduced in a strain of pigs in Germany. There is defective transport of calcium through the wall of the small intestine, with secondary hypocalcemia and hypophosphatemia, and signs start at about 20 days of age. |
