| 英文描述 | Affects primarily the central nervous system but sometimes the ocular, skeletal, reproductive, and visceral organs. Most of the infections are inapparent. Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic problem. Species known to to cause disease in birds: TOXOPLASMA AVIUM, T. GONDII, and T. PADDAE. Lesions include enlarged liver and spleen, necrotic hepatitis, pericarditis, myocarditis, lung congestion, ulcerative enteritis, and encephalitis. Histopathology shows encysted TOXOPLASMAS in the cerebrum, brain stem, optic chiasma, and around ventricles and in molecular and Purkinje layers of the cerebellum. Diagnosis is by isolation of the organism by injecting suspensions of infected tissues into laboratory animals or chicken egg-embryos. |
