In Africa the 'jigger' TUNGA PENETRANS may severely affect milking females, with localization on the teats and obstruction and compression of the milk ducts. This problem is associated with pigs wallowing in river mud, and is prevented by abandonment of the infested shores. There is inability of the piglets to nurse, inhibition of milk production, and secondary mastitis. |
