| 英文描述 | Atrial fibrillation in the dog may be established (constant) or occur in paroxysms. If paroxysms endure longer than 2 weeks, atrial fibrillation is considered to be established. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation may be a precursor of established atrial fibrillation; either condition is indicative of severe underlying heart disease with a grave prognosis. Dx by signs, ECG, with absence of P waves and irregular ventricular response. Etiology may be related to atrial enlargement with stretching and necrosis of muscle fibers. Most common in middle-aged, large-breed, male dogs. Conventional treatments include rest, digitalis, diuretics, and sodium restriction (Bonagura and Ware) The use of beta-adrenergic drugs such as propranolol has also been advocated. Uncommon in cats, and when seen is usually associated with underlying heart disease. |
