| 英文描述 | Premature foals, born between 300 and 320 days of gestation, and foals born at more than 320 days of gestation but immature (dysmature), can be weak, small and dull, with a very fine hair coat. Respiratory difficulty is common in these foals. Dx by breeding dates and physical examination. Affected foals may develop colic after feeding. These foals may require intensive supportive care. Foals which are premature or dysmature are often normal during the first day of life, but after about 24 hours some develop the 'second day syndrome', with deterioration of respiratory and metabolic status followed by neurologic signs. There are no primary lesions at necropsy. |
