| 英文描述 | White muscle disease occurs occasionally in foals, and is believed to to common in foals under 1 week old, but has been reported in foals up to 11 months old. Weakness and/or dysphagia are the major presenting signs in subacute disease, but acute and fulminant disease can result in cardiovascular collapse and death within hours or days (Lofstedt). Urine tests for hemoglobin might test positive due to myoglobin in the urine. Muscle enzymes (AST, CK) elevated. Dx by signs of muscle weakness, elevated muscle enzymes, decreased blood selenium and/or glutathione peroxidase levels, and response to vitamin E-selenium administration. The prognosis is best when treatment is initiated early in the disease, but response may be poor in advanced cases. |
