| 英文描述 | About 5% of mares develop male behavior during pregnancy, particularly at 4-5 months of gestation. Believed to be due to high levels of testosterone normally produced by the fetoplacental unit. This may be confused with behavior caused by a granulosa-theca cell tumor, particularly as ovarian enlargement often occurs during pregnancy as a result of accessory corpora lutea. This enlargement occurs between days 45 and 100, and is usually bilateral. The veterinarian should be aware of this to avoid confusing these large normal ovaries with ovarian tumors and removing them by mistake. |
