| 英文描述 | A series of mares was described which developed colic between 0 and 24 hours after foaling. Exploratory surgery showed there was ischemic necrosis of the small colon, which had developed following rupture of the mesocolon. This has followed both normal and assisted deliveries. Diagnosis and treatment require an exploratory celiotomy. This diagnosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of postfoaling gastrointestinal complications, particularly when there is a slow deterioration of signs, an increase in peritoneal fluid protein, and WBC count, and palpable impaction of the descending colon. Segmental ischemic necrosis of the small intestine has also been described in postparturient mares. Ischemic necrosis is also associated with verminous arteritis. |
