| 英文描述 | Guttural pouches are air-filled diverticula of the equine auditory tubes that communicate between the middle ear and the pharynx. Empyema of the guttural pouch causes clinical illness. STREPTOCOCCI are the most common bacterial cause of empyema but organisms including ESCHERICHIA COLI, KLEBSIELLA spp., CORYNEBACTERIUM spp., BORDETELLA spp., and SALMONELLA have been isolated. Pus in the pouch might become inspissated to form cheezy masses called chondroids. Erosion of the carotid and maxillary arteries leads to epistaxis. In rare instances empyema is caused by a tumor of the pouch. Occasionally a foreign body can penetrate the guttural pouch, be trapped there, and cause chronic problems, particularly epistaxis. |
