| 英文描述 | Mares grazing tall fescue grass (FESTUCA ARUNDINACEA) infected with an endophytic fungus, NEOTYPHODIUM COENOPHIALUM, can develop dystocia, and agalacia following foaling. Loose feces and diarrhea were associated with grazing infected fescue; milk production was normal in subsequent foalings. Horses with toxicosis due to N. COENOPHIALUM have been reported to have thickened placentas, weak foals, retained placentas, prolonged gestation, and abortion. Treat by removing mares from infected pastures. Yearlings grazing endophyte-infected tall fescue had decreased rates of gain in weight. Horses experimentally fed endophyte-infected fescue had slowing of recovery from exercise. Tall fescue is one of the most common forage grasses for horses, and infection with the fungal endophyte is common. |
