| 英文描述 | A pony experimentally given an oral dose of sporocysts of SARCOCYSTIS species developed a chronic infection by 120 days post infection, with hair loss on the face and neck, the head held low and eyelids usually closed. The animal was anemic with evidence of autoimmune disease. Microscopic cysts were present in muscles at necropsy. Acute and chronic myositis has been associated with SARCOCYSTIS infection of equine muscle tissue in the field. SARCOCYSTIS FAYERI is present in the U.S., SARCOCYSTIS BERTRAMI was reported in European horses. Dx by microscopic examination of muscle biopsy specimens, keeping in mind the fact that the prevalence of intramuscular sarcocytes has been high in horses surveyed at slaughter plants. There are high activities of serum muscle enzymes. Parasitic myositis can be considered in the differential diagnosis for horses that have acute myositis without typical predisposing factors. |
