| 英文描述 | Equine Viral Arteritis virus is an ARTERIVIRUS. It can cause generalized influenza-like disease in adult horses, abortion in mares, and interstitial pneumonia in foals. Serologically widespread but clinical disease is less common. Infected stallions can become long-term carriers of this virus. Transmitted by: a susceptible mare being served by a carrier stallion or inseminated with infected semen; aerosol transmission in respiratory secretions; fomites. Dx by isolation of virus from nasopharyngeal swabs, citrated blood samples or semen and/or a four-fold increase in titer. This disease is characterized by a panvasculitis and affects many body systems. In an experiment involving natural transmission to mares signs were difficult to detect prior to abortion, but clinical signs have been seen in natural outbreaks. Stallions might have a temporary period of decreased fertility shortly after exposure to the virus. Except for some foals, in which the disease can be severe enough to cause sudden death, naturally-infected horses make uneventful clinical recoveries. |
