| 英文描述 | Stringhalt is characterized by sudden and involuntary exaggerated flexion of one or both hind limbs during attempted movement. The cause is unknown. The signs may be mild or so severe that the limb hits the abdominal wall. Often worse after rest or when turning or backing. There is no pathognomonic test, and diagnosis rests on physical examination of the gait. Recovery from conventional stringhalt is rare. Outbreaks have occurred in pastured horses, possibly due to plant toxicity (the weed HYPOCHOERIS RADICATA is a prime suspect) a syndrome known as 'Australian Stringhalt' but not limited to Australia; in bilaterally affected horses there may be a bunny-hopping gait, and a stumbling forelimb gait and laryngeal paresis have occured in rare cases. Most cases of 'Australian Stringhalt' recover over a period of several months. |
