| 英文描述 | Equine guttural pouches are air-filled diverticula of the auditory tubes that communicate between the middle ear and the pharynx. Air can accumulate in this diverticulum due to a presumed defect in the pharyngeal opening, causing a nonpainful distention in the parotid region. Unilateral or (less commonly) bilateral. Usually seen from shortly after birth to under 1 1/2 years of age. Can lead to respiratory distress and dysphagia. The prognosis for foals with tympany uncomplicated by pneumonia or dysphagia is favorable following treatment. Dx by aspiration of air or radiography. |
